Earth Day on April 22, 2009, marks the beginning of Earth Month – an event to celebrate!
Following a US Congress resolution, the United States have observed Earth Day on April 22 of each year beginning in 1970. Since 1990, celebrations have expanded around the world. The reason behind Earth Day is to encourage people to reconsider their consumerism by taking responsible and sustainable action. If you are curious about the steps we have taken towards consuming fewer resources, then read on.
Drinking tap water from a reusable SIGG bottle helps reduce unnecessary waste caused by disposable plastic water bottles. But that is not the only way to help the environment by using a SIGG bottle.
Over the last two years we have donated hundreds of thousands of US dollars to environmental projects through our subsidiary SIGG USA, and we are very proud to expand our ecological commitment. In 2009 we became a global member of 1% For The Planet, donating 1 percent of our worldwide sales to eco-friendly projects across the globe. We firmly believe that we will reach our goal of $1 million by the end of 2009.
In addition, we aim to continuously optimize our manufacturing processes in terms of sustainability. In the course of this endeavor, our engineering team in Switzerland successfully developed two environmentally friendly in-house initiatives:
1. Reducing the use of packaging materials – our SIGG team will achieve a reduction of 6 tons of packaging
materials used in 2009 by manufacturing cardboard boxes made of recycled paper for our SIGG bottles.
2. New liner technology - SIGG bottles are equipped with a powder-based interior coating. Our new
manufacturing method guarantees completely waste-free production. Furthermore, the new SIGG bottle
liner offers all the advantages of its predecessor: it does not alter the taste or scent of your beverage,
and it is 100% leach-proof. The SIGG liner contains no bisphenol A (BPA), no PVC, no phthalates nor any
other substances that are considered harmful.
On this note, get yourself a SIGG bottle today and help protect the environment!
